a church that’s alive

I recently visited a new church. We drove on the highway all the way, and it still took nearly 1.5 hours to get there. I purposefully went a little earlier, because I intended on meeting new people, and mix around a little before the church service started. The foyer was set up with a photo… Continue reading a church that’s alive

Hope Eternal

On Christmas Eve, we'd gather in the living room with its flower wallpaper, and a paper chain garland that the grandchildren were tasked to colour and hang up, and in the corner: a cardboard star, covered in tinfoil kept a watchful eye over the Nativity Scene that was re-enacted below. We'd light our candles and sing Silent Night. I'd look up at that cardboard star, thinking of the wise men who travelled so far out of their way, across foreign nations to honour a King they did not yet know, and be filled with wonder: BEHOLD HIM, our Hope Eternal

do you know where we are going?

In 2011, I was living and working in Babylon, Namibia -- an informal settlement outside the capital city, of Windhoek. We were on our way out to do ministry in a new area and were waiting to meet pastor Ephraim, our local contact, on the corner of the Shoprite centre. We didn't know this at the time, but that corner was an informal taxi rank of sorts, and people came from all over to catch a minibus to take their commute to or from work in the city. We were driving a 12-seater Sprinter bus at the time and blended in with the many other taxis. While we were waiting, a group of three people came up to the window and asked for a ride, "Are you going to Eros?" they asked. And Jurgens, who was on my team, promptly replied, "No, we're going to heaven! Are you coming with us?" The invitation to COME WITH US, not only pertains to the invitation of living in relationship with Christ Jesus, but it is a two-fold invitation for believers to JOIN in the WORK OF THE KINGDOM. This invitation is probably the most exciting and most daunting part of being a believer in Christ, walking in a relationship with the Father, and joining in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, yet, it is crucial to make heaven manifest on earth.

we are trees

There are so many things I could say to describe this past week of fellowship at Overland Missions' R14 base, but I'll stick to this: He keeps His covenant to a thousand generations - Deuteronomy 7:9 Life is better in team, and my team is pretty fantastic But because the Lord loves you and because… Continue reading we are trees

a simple offering

We were out on Expedition in Simwatachela Chiefdom in Zambia. A bare-bones two-week ministry trip in which we drove 7 hours with the DAF truck and set up camp in the bush just outside Mafuta village. We were here to work with the local churches, visit from home-to-home, and share the Gospel. Expetitions are bare-bones… Continue reading a simple offering

Overland Missions field report: June

COVID-19 put the world into unknown territory. As something new happened in the world, something new was happening in Mozambique. Four students traveled to Mozambique, unaware that a historic world lockdown would soon occur. Planes, busses, and 4x4s carried them over sea and dusty, sandy roads to reach our base in Inhambane, Mozambique. These students arrived just weeks before worldwide lockdowns forced border closures and flight cancelations. They were there to experience a move of God and connect with Him in a new way as participants in the first ever Advanced Mission Training outside of Zambia. Little did they know how different it would be! Read what happened next!

locked down but not locked in

The plans and purposes of the Lord are never stopped or hinderd, or even delayed by anything in this world. We all anticipate the day where we will be together in DRC, advancing the Kingdom and sharing the Word of God. For now, we remain faithful in doing what we can do to prepare for post-pandemic ministry.
