Hope Eternal

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a LIVING HOPE through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honour at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

1 Peter 1:3-9

This month, the birth of Jesus Christ is celebrated across the world. The Lion and the Lamb. The Son of God, who became the son of man to reconcile us back to Him. My prayer for each of you is that you will continue to seek Him out in your personal lives, and pursue relationship with the Father, drawing close to behold Him.

When I was a child, we would spend alternating Christmases with my grandmothers. I have fond Christmas memories of both sides of the family, and there’s one particular memory I want to highlight.

My paternal grandmother turned 90 years old on 17 December this year. I think back to those simple Christmases on the farm, and there’s a flood of sights, sounds, and smells that fill the atmosphere. The din of laughter and conversation from the kitchen, where wholesome meals were being prepared on a wood fire stove, would mix with the many feet of grandchildren running and playing outside, and the echo of the wooden floors in the hallway. Once outside on the stoep, there would be the smell of smoke as the fires were stoked for braaivleis and potbrood. Bleating sheep, and clucking mamma hens ushering their chicks under the rose bushes while keeping a watchful eye out for falcons. One of my aunts would spontaneously start a sing-along to the house organ or the piano, and we’d sing carols and hymns until we were called together for dinner.

And then, on Christmas Eve, we’d gather in the living room with its flower wallpaper and nice couches, a paper chain garland that the grandchildren were tasked to colour and hang up, and in the corner: a cardboard star, covered in tinfoil kept a watchful eye over the Nativity Scene that was re-enacted below. We’d light our candles and sing Silent Night. I’d look up at that cardboard star, thinking of the wise men who travelled so far out of their way, across foreign nations to honour a King they did not yet know, and be filled with wonder: BEHOLD HIM, our Hope Eternal!

May this season, and the new year, be an ushering-in of awe and wonder, a celebration of reconciliation. This is the essence of the Gospel, that every tribe, and every nation, may come to know Him, our living Hope.

Kingdom culture transforms every culture to the best possible version of itself, without giving up the beauty of what makes each people group unique.  This is why Overland Missions have always worked from the premise of honouring a country’s traditional leaders and government.

For the past 20 years, our greater team has sown our time and our money to invest in traditional leaders. The King of Kings conference was a beautiful fruit of twenty years of ministry to these leaders. The number of logistics that went into this event was mind-boggling. We worked HARD and slept little, but in the end, it was WORTH IT.  We saw kings of nations bow their knees to Jesus Christ. We saw hands lifted high in honour and praise of Jesus, the King of Kings! We thank everyone who prayed and interceded with us for this great event. It was truly historic!

From DR Congo, Julie says, “I am also in contact with several French-speaking and Congolese kings and queens from other nations. Praise God for these beautiful testimonies! I’ve been trying to get an update out for a bit now – but electricity isn’t cooperating and now there is a problem with faulty wiring at my place where even the generator isn’t working. One Christmas wish would be that an electrician can figure it out soon, so I can charge something and keep some food from going bad in 24 hours in this heat and humidity. Praying you all to have a beautiful weekend celebrating the arrival of Christ our Saviour!”

It has been over 2 months since our epic King of Kings event, but the ripple effect is going to continue for generations.

Check out this awesome video documenting the event!

King of Kings Overview

Every Year, Overland Missions hosts a missions conference in Florida, United States where friends of Overland, our international staff, and anyone who’s interested in bringing the Gospel to unreached people groups in remote locations gather to cast vision for the year ahead.

I will be making my way to Florida this year to join our team there, and to raise financial support in order to return to the Democratic Republic of Congo in early 2023. I’d like to invite you to join us this year – in person or online, for a nation-shaking gathering!

4 – 7 JANUARY 2023 at New Life Christian Fellowship, Jacksonville, Florida, USA

While in the States, I am available to visit churches, and partners, and to minister as often as I have the opportunity, to share what the Lord is doing in DR Congo and beyond! If you would like me to speak at your house, Bible study group, or church, please reach out! I’d love to meet with as many of you as possible!

WhatsApp: +27 615225401 or email: cornelia@overlandmissions

While I’ve been working hard to raise a team of financial support, and I am truly thankful for each who has sown into my life and ministry, I still have a large monthly amount that I need to fulfil to meet the demands of ministry by the end of January 2023. As an encouragement, I’d like to remind you of the value of partnership.

Partnerships are the specific relationship between parties, involving close cooperation, and it has joint rights, responsibilities, and privileges. Each person who partners with this mission does so with their finances and their faith, which forms a close relationship of cooperation.

Without your partnership, many lives would remain untouched by the Gospel. Your prayer lays the foundation for every relationship that is built on the ground, every individual that is discipled, and every enemy stronghold that is torn down. Your finances expand our reach in ministry — it helps us to fuel up vehicles that can handle the tough terrains, it buys Bibles for Chiefs, Kings, and Ministers, it feeds and clothes widows and orphans, it equips, it empowers, and it enables missionaries with boots on the ground to do whatever it takes to bring the Gospel of the Kingdom to these outlying areas.

The most amazing part is that, as we are each fulfilling the responsibilities of this specific partnership, we are partakers of the fruit and the harvest that is being produced. Every single person that is saved, healed, or set free, is a victory and a celebration that you get to share in! God honours partnerships and rewards each accordingly. You’re doing great!

Thank you for being involved! I love you and appreciate you, and it is an incredible privilege to have you partnering with me!

Here are some specific ministry needs:

  • Monthly support – I need to raise $4000 per month in my ministry account (3282) which goes towards all ministry movements: plane tickets, fuel, ministry partners, etc.
  • Vehicle – I am also raising funds for a ministry vehicle in DR Congo, and I’m trusting God to provide $20000 for this specific need.

I am also believing for some new partner relationships, so if you have any friends or churches who might be interested in connecting with me in ministry, I would love to make time for that!

If you feel led to invest in this season’s movement, please choose your preferred giving method below:

If you’ve been yearning to reach people in the mission field, now is a great time to join!

  • PRAY for those working in the field, and for those who are yet unreached by the Gospel: Luke 10:2
  • GIVE finances to send someone to do the work, and partner with them in this way: Ecclesiastes 11:1
  • GO and fulfil the call to reach everyone with the Gospel: Matthew 28:18-20

you are a part of this team

As always, a grand THANK YOU to each of you! I’m so blessed by your encouragement and prayer as our team continues to believe for a great move of God here in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, and my home country, South Africa. Because of you, and your support in every way, we can participate in the mission — to see the sick healed, the oppressed set free, the dead raised, and the Good News proclaimed to those who are without hope. Through your faithful partnership in finances, prayer, and support this ministry can grow, bear fruit, and share in the joy of the harvest! Thank you to all of you who sow and continue sowing into my life, our team, and the lives of others who are growing in Christ, receiving Christ, and are sent out by Christ.

Because of your commitment, remote communities are reached with the Gospel of the Kingdom — thank you for being a part of that!

I love each one of you and am so excited for what the Lord is doing and going to do through your lives as well. Giving it all might require finances, time, and sacrifice, but it’s worth it. He is worth it. The greatest gift was given when Jesus laid His own life down for us. Everything else falls short. He deserves eternal glory!

prayer requests

• Please continue to pray for the harvest here in DRC! There are many who seek after Truth, even though generation after generation has hardened their hearts against exploitation. Already there’s the rumbling of revival in the Spirit.

• Pray for labourers — we are trusting God to add to our team! We are actively looking for people to join our team here in DRC with boots on the ground! Please stand with us in faith for a team who loves God, and who loves His people, who feel specifically called to live and work here with us.

• The Congolese people — among the Congolese there are many religious peoples, but it’s birthed out of years of tradition, lacking relationship and depth, and is often accompanied by the occult. Yet it proves desperation for a Truth that is deeper than the surface. Please continue to pray for this wonderful nation, that their hearts will be yielded to the Holy Spirit, and that they will take hold of the Truth.

Blessings in Christ

P.S. Please continue to let me know how I can pray for you!
